Author Biography

Randolph B. Persaud, American University

Dr. Randolph B. Persaud is Associate Professor of International Relations at the School of International Service, American University, Washington, D.C. He hails from Cornelia Ida, West Coast Demerara, Guyana and attended Leonora Primary, Zeeburg Secondary, and the Queen’s College in Georgetown. His research interests are in the areas of international theory with a focus on race, culture, and identity; international and human security; globalization; and migration. At American University, he previously served as the Interim-Director for the Council on the Americas, and Director of Comparative & Regional Studies. He has consulted with the U.S. State Department, the Council on Foreign Relations, and the United Nations via the United Nations University. Dr. Persaud is the author of Counter-Hegemony and Foreign Policy published by the State University of New York Press. He has also published in major academic outlets such as Alternatives, Globalizations, Cambridge Review of International Affairs, Race and Class, Connecticut Journal of International Law, Latin American Politics & Society. He has given lectures and participated in conferences in Japan, Korea, Italy, Holland, England, Belgium, Northern Ireland, Canada, Panama, Honduras, Jamaica, St. Lucia, Trinidad and Tobago, United Arab Emirates, Colombia, Brazil, and most major cities in the United States. Since 2011, he has been a member of the Steering Committee of the Center of Excellence in Biodiversity Excellence at the University of Guyana, funded by the World Bank.
