Kelsey Peterson

Kelsey Peterson is currently a finance analyst at PepsiCo. She is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame (2015),
where she majored in American Studies and Finance. This article is based on her senior seminar research paper. She

Perin Gürel, University of Notre Dame

Perin Gürel is Assistant Professor of American Studies and
concurrent Assistant Professor of Gender Studies at the University of Notre Dame. She is the author of The Limits of Westernization: A Cultural History of America in Turkey (Columbia University Press, 2017). Her work has also
appeared in American Quarterly, American Literary History, Journal of Turkish Literature, and elsewhere. She can
